Wilberfoss Jubilee Project

The Wilberfoss Jubilee Project  - A project FOR the people of Wilberfoss ABOUT the people of Wilberfoss in commemoration of the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and in Celebration of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics

All in all a special year, 2012, and one worth celebrating.  The book, to quote the author, 'is our imperfect attempt to do so'!  The Wilberfoss Jubilee Project was a project established to celebrate Wilberfoss old and new, to record and update the story of Wilberfoss and its residents, in commemoration of both the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics/Paralympics.  The book captures the spirit of the moment rather than the tedium of relentless data.  It is a 'light touch' look at the village, more a box of chocolate Celebrations to be dipped into, than a Buckingham Palace bouquet.

Profits from the sale of the book were re-invested into the village through donations to voluntary village groups and the book was still having an impact in 2018 when it helped to fund a new handbuilt noticeboard which stands proudly between the War Memorial and the Community Centre on Main Street.  It is jointly used by the Wilberfoss Parish Council and the community as a whole.

AND FOR THE GRAND FINALE ...

The Project culminated in a celebration of all things old and new with an Exhibition of photographs at Wilberfoss Community Centre. A lasting memory for all those who lived in Wilberfoss in 2012, the book delivers so much ...

  • A photographic record of village life in 2012
  • A potted history of Wilberfoss
  • Some wonderful quotes from residents old and new
  • Fabulous archive photographs
  • A sense of what Wilberfoss means to those who live here
  • A coffee table essential for every household in the village
