Responsible for all things recreational in Wilberfoss, a group of around 10 volunteers makes up the Playing Fields Association. The site includes the senior and junior play areas, outdoor table tennis table, a number of trim trails, 7+ acres of playing fields, 4 tennis courts, a Sports Pavilion and car park.
The Pavilion
has a licensed bar and kitchen and serves alcohol and food from Wednesdays to Sundays. Please enquire to
Wilberfoss Pavilion
for use of the function room for a private event.
With a focus on fundraising, the Pavilion and grounds have seen some major improvements since 2010. Floodlighting and CCTV have raised safety standards and complement the four Football Foundation approved changing rooms at the Sports Pavilion. A table tennis table and a number of trim trails have added to the recreational facilities on site. If you're inspired by the work of the PFA and you'd like to get involved talk to John Spencer, the PFA Chairman.
Celebrating its centenary year in 2017, Wilberfoss AFC has benefitted enormously from the refurbished changing rooms at the Pavilion.
With teams ranging from U7 to U19s, Wilberfoss Mavericks is a thriving Junior Football Club. Open to boys and girls, there's even an opportunity through the mini Mavericks for 4 and 5 year olds to have a kick around!
Wilberfoss Tennis Club is a friendly village tennis club and welcomes all players of tennis to come and join.
Four lovely carpets courts are cleaned every year to keep the playing surface in top condition. The fourth court was recently resurfaced.
Harthill Company of
Archers
Formed in 2015 and shoot
outdoors at Wilberfoss Playing Fields from April to September. They currently have around 20 shooting or social members and welcome anyone interested in Archery to come along. Pop down on Sunday afternoons for an informal chat with members.
The Queens' Diamond Jubilee and the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics inspired 3 youngsters from Wilberfoss CE Primary School to build a community space that won them first prize in a Humberside Police initiative. The Humberside Police Lifetstyle Project encourages children to make a difference in their community and their project won them a trip to Florida! The girls had the help of Wilberfoss Parish Council and Wilberfoss Playing Fields Association who installed the table tennis table and Wilberfoss in Bloom who helped to design and plant the wildlife garden.
Between 1999 and 2003 a group of hardworking volunteers raised funds to transform the tatty wooden Play Area, re-naming it The Wilberfoss Jubilee Play Area to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002. They were ably assisted in their desire to provide a first rate facility by a huge number of families and local businesses who sponsored metres of the fencing surrounding the site. The grass is maintained by Wilberfoss Parish Council's grounds maintenance contractor and volunteers from the Playing Fields Association are responsible for safety issues. A voluntary litter picker patrols the site on a weekly basis but thankfully most of the children use the litter bins provided!
