Built with National Lottery funding, and overseen by a dedicated team of individuals who formed the first Management Committee, Wilberfoss Community Centre has been a hive of activity since it opened its doors in 1999. It's run on a daily basis by 3 paid part-time members of staff - all of whom have been employed for more than 15 years! The Centre is available to hire 7 days a week. Please get in touch with our Centre Manager, Sarah Wills, who will be happy to give you a guided tour.
Funding from Sport England, the FCC Communities Foundation and Hull & East Riding Charitable Trust in 2020 allowed us to fit acoustic sound boards to the walls and ceiling, install a dimmable lighting system, add an automatic entrance door to make access easier, and replace curtains. Other upgrades have included a free fully-fitted kitchen provided by Howdens Joinery and a solid maple floor that's ideal for dancing and fitness. Continuous upgrades help to secure the future of Wilberfoss Community Centre and in May 2024 we received further funding from the Hull & East Riding Charitable Trust which helped us replace lighting with occupancy sensor lighting to reduce our carbon footprint. In August 2024 we were awarded £14,000.00 from the National Lottery Community Fund to continue our sustainability journey and we have submitted a funding bid to the VCSE Energy Efficiency Scheme to build on this success. An Energy Assessment (paid for through through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund Feasibility Study Grant) identified a number of upgrades but they are big projects and reliant on grant funding. We are putting all our efforts into raising the necessary funds. Further funding success in 2024, through the UK Shared Prosperity Digital Fund, has allowed us to fit a mesh wifi system and a wifi speaker system in the main function rooms. Funding was also provide to offer opportunities to help community members get online and improve their digital skills.
The Centre plays host to a large number of regular and one-off users and is an ideal venue for parties and celebrations too. In addition, the Management Committee see the Centre as a Hub so they organise opportunities for the community to gather. Tuesday Chat (which is a free-to- access social space providing free refreshments and sometimes homemade cakes) and themed quiz nights are examples of this. Continue scrolling to find an activity. Hiring rates are charged per room, per hour and start from as little as £11 for non-profit making bookings, rising to £13 for semi-commercial users and £20 for commercial hirers. Three main function rooms are separated by moveable partitions, so they can be combined to make larger spaces for bigger groups and activities.
As well as the main function rooms we have a meeting room which can accommodate 8-10 people and a one-to-one therapy room. These offices can be hired on a half-day or full-day basis at a cost of £30 for a half day and £60 for a full day.

We collaborated with Wilberfoss Parish Council to fit a Book Exchange in the porch at the front of the Community Centre. This is an opportunity to recycle books on a swap system - you bring a book ~ you take a book. The community orchard in the front garden of the Centre offers the community free fruit. Why not sit in the porch and enjoy an apple and a good book!
A fantastic team from the Humberside Community Payback Scheme did a terrific job repainting the front porch, entrance gate and Book Exchange in September 2024. Every member of the team was dedicated to the project and the supervisor, Sam, ensured the work was carried out professionally. Thank you to the whole team!
Don't forget we'd love you to recycle your clothes and textiles at the bank supplied by Envirofriendly Recycling. It's located at the back of the Community Centre. Funds raised contribute directly to the running costs of the Centre and we're grateful for every penny of support. So far the community has raised £236.00. Thank you!
